Sergio Silvestris Fund. Afghanistan.

When he was alive, Sergio Silvestris was a dedicated supporter of Nove Onlus. His patronage continues through the Fund he allocated to support the association’s activities.

In 2015, the year it was formed in his memory, the Sergio Silvestris Fund gave small amounts of direct aid to disabled Afghan children.

By 2016-2017, the Fund had grown considerably, supplying the funding of the following Nove Onlus activities in Afghanistan:

  • Surgery for children with congenital deformities and disabled adults.

  • Scholarships for disabled students.

  •  Reduction of architectural barriers to improve the living conditions of disabled people (e.g. construction of ramps and accessible toilets).

  • I am a woman and I want to work‘ Project: professional training and job opportunities available to women in a socioeconomic vulnerability condition.

  • The power of Sport‘ Project: it supports the Afghan wheelchair basketball team, through the supply of custom-made competition wheelchairs; payment of travel costs for participation in international tournaments; construction and repair of sports facilities for disabled people; training of referees and classifiers.

Since 2018, the Sergio Silvestris Fund has invested mainly in the projects ‘I am a woman and I want to work’ and ‘The power of Sport’. Since 2020 it has extended its support to the ‘I am a child too‘ Project.  It also indirectly supports all the beneficiaries of Nove Onlus’ initiatives, covering a portion of the overheads necessary to carry out the projects and make them grow, so that they help more and more people.
